Dog Cake

Why not bake a dog cake to celebrate your dog’s birthday. More dog lovers are celebrating their dogs’ birthdays than ever before. It’s fun to decorate the dining room and make your dog their own birthday cake and pup cakes. But unlike cake for humans, a dog cake should be safe for their consumption. But it can still look fantastic too!

Below you will find 5 amazing tricks to get the most out of your dog’s cake.  Click here for 4 easy cake recipes.

1. Use A Silicone Cake Mold

Dog cakes don’t need to be made in a boring square or round shape. Try using a silicone cupcake mold or a silicone cake mold to make your dog’s next celebration cake. The additional benefit is that a shape can be made to look a lot like a dog toy!

2. Add A Natural Sweetener

Dogs appreciate an extra treat, but you may not wish to add white sugar to their cake, as their systems are sensitive to cardiac and pancreatic diseases. The solution is to replace the sugar in a recipe with a bit of honey. You can also decrease the amount. For instance, instead of 1/2 cup of sugar, add 1/3 cup of honey instead. This is also the perfect substitution if you do want to make a cake for both you and your dog to enjoy, without having to bake two.

3. Add Some Fiber

All dogs can benefit from a bit of extra fiber in their diets. Shred one carrot and add it to your cake mixture. The carrot will cook naturally with the rest of the cake in the oven so you don’t even need to precook it. Pumpkin can be added instead of carrot, as it’s also full of fiber and healthy properties to keep your dog’s digestive system running well. Ensure you only use pure pumpkin and not pie filling though!

4. Don’t Forget The Frosting

Even though the cake is for your dog and not you, you can still make some dog friendly frosting. Frosting doesn’t need to contain the endless amounts of sugar, butter, or other types of fats. Instead, you can make frosting from basic cornstarch and eggs. You can even add in a bit of food coloring. Other options include making it from mashed sweet potatoes and a bit of unsweetened yogurt.

5. Use A Cupcake or Muffin Pan

If you don’t want your dog to eat an entire cake in one serving, but are concerned about mess, you can spoon your doggy cake mixture into smaller cupcakes or muffin tins. Then after they’re done baking, simply store the extra ones in a plastic container so that your dog can enjoy birthday treats for the entire week.
