Dehydrated Sweet Potato, Apple and Carrot Mix

These are great gluten free dog treats that you and your dog can enjoy, and they are very healthy! Dehydrating fruit and vegetables, allows the treats to keep their nutrition. Whereas oven baking can reduce the amount of nutrition that is left in the treat. If you know your dog is not a huge fan of the ingredients in the recipe, you can mix it up with fruits and vegetables that you know he likes –  to make it extra special!

Ingredients:

  • 1 Organic sweet potato
  • 1 Organic carrot
  • 1 Organic apple
  • 1 Tablespoon of organic parsley (optional)

Method:

  1. Slice the potatoes, carrots, and apples as thin as you can.
  2. Sprinkle over the parsley evenly. (optional)
  3. Place into your dehydrator and cook for 4 hours at 135F. You can adapt the time until you have achieved your desired texture. Store these treats in a cool area inside an air-tight container.

Optional: These can also be baked in the oven at 180 degrees for 3-4 hours. Place the sliced sweet potato, apple, and carrot on parchment paper on a baking tray.


Gluten Free Cheddar Bone Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 Cups of organic white rice flour
  • 1 1/4 Cups of grated organic sharp cheddar cheese
  • x3 1/2 Ounces of organic butter
  • Few drops of organic milk

Method:

  1. Preheat your oven to 325F.
  2. Mix together the grated cheese and butter.
  3. Add the rice flour to the mixture and knead it into a ball (add a drop of milk, if needed)
  4. Put the dough ball in the fridge for 30 minutes to chill.
  5. After 30 minutes, roll the dough out onto a floured surface until approx 1/2 inch thick.
  6. Using cookie cutters, cut the shapes out of the dough.
  7. Place parchment paper onto a baking tray, and then place the cookies onto the tray and into the oven for 15 minutes.

* If you don’t have cookie cutters, you can put the mixture into silicone molds. After 15 minutes, leave the cookies in the turned-off oven for an extra 15 minutes. This will allow the cookies to become crunchier.

While corn and soy are gluten free, they are not recommended to use in dog foods or treats. Doe’s your dog food or treats contain corn or soy?
