Are You Choosing The Best Ones?

Why not try switching sugary snacks for organic dog biscuits and treats? Our little furry friends deserve to lead healthy and happy life. What are you currently using for your dog’s treats? Do you turn to cost-effective or branded snacks? Either way, the problem remains the same. Your dog will not be safe from additives, preservatives, gluten, and other ingredients that can worsen your dog’s health.

So, it’s no wonder why many dog owners are turning to homemade organic treats. These types of daily refreshments are free from fillers and other dangerous substances. What is more important, these goodies are packed with nutrients that support the digestive system and foster healthy growth.

How to Recognize Organic Treats?

Organic dog biscuits and treats

Although it’s best to prepare snacks yourself, busy dog owners might not always have the time to make organic dog biscuits and treats. In this case, turn to the small print on the label to determine if the treat you intend to purchase is organic.

The truth is that many commercial dog treats contain GMOs (genetically modified organisms) just like people food. Plus, although you may find the term “organic” on the package, that doesn’t necessarily mean the treats contain organic ingredients solely. Unfortunately, there are only a handful of products you can rely on for quality nutritional value.

For example, you will recognize the food that’s entirely made of organic ingredients and is safe for consumption only if you see the “100% organic” label on the product. If you only see the word “organic” on the label, then the product contains up to 95% of organic content.

On the other hand, food “made with organic ingredients” suggests that the product has to contain at least 70% organic materials. As you can see, anything less than 100% is not acceptable. Why? Because organic food must comply with the organic norm which is to process food without any additives, hormones, pesticides, fillers, artificial colors, etc. As well as food that is not in any way contaminated by human or industrial waste, for more information on commercial, organic and natural dog treats, visit the organic dog treats page.

But beyond having peace of mind once you acquire “natural” or “organic” snacks, you will be happy to know which toxins from the food you have left behind and what you’ve gained by doing so:

  • A longer canine lifespan. Pollutants such as antibiotics, herbicides, and pesticides, are known to infiltrate commercial dog treats. Since they are hard for dogs to digest, they often lead to many health problems. However, eating organically means that your pet gets quality nutrition that supports a longer lifespan.
  • Fewer allergies and veterinarian visits. Another organic benefit is fewer dog allergies and emergency visits to the vet. Due to certain contaminated ingredients found in an array of commercial treats, your dog might react to these toxins by developing rashes or sores, allergies, and other life-threatening disorders.
  • Consistent weight. Are you familiar with the meaning of “filters” in commercial treats? They represent diverse ingredients but are quite harmful to dogs. Components such as corn syrup, BHA/BTP, and propylene glycol lead to weight gain, intestinal issues, and even cancer.

However, if your pup eats organic, you will quickly notice a change in his appearance and overall behavior. Your furry friend will feel and look healthier. These changes include a stronger and richer coat, better skin, nails, etc. Hence, by eliminating these harmful elements and replacing them with organic ingredients, you can ensure that your doggie maintains a consistent weight with more nutritious and less fattening snacks.

Below is the recipe to make pumpkin pies, but here are a few other filling suggestions that you might like to try:

  • Cream Cheese and Smooth Peanut Butter
  • Fresh Pumpkin (sensitive stomachs)
  • Fresh Pumpkin, Chicken, and Brown Rice (sensitive stomachs)
  • Beef, Fresh Parsley and Sweet Potato
  • Low Fat Plain Yogurt and Blueberries (can use other dog-friendly fruits)
  • Peas, Broccoli, Sweet Potato, and Sweetcorn (vegetarian option)

Ingredients:

Crust

  • 3/4 Cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1/2 Oatmeal (blended or minced)
  • 1/4 Cup Unsweetened Applesauce
  • 4 Tablespoons Water
  • 1 Tablespoon Cheese (optional)

Filling

  • Cooked Chicken Breast
  • 100% Pure Organic Pumpkin

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Spray a muffin tray with olive oil. This will stop the dough from sticking to the muffin tray when the crusts are baking in the oven.
  3. In a blender, mix together the oatmeal, flour, and cheese (optional).
  4. While mixing, gradually add the applesauce. Then slowly add the water until you get a dough ball formed. If you add too much water the dough will become sticky and hard to manage. If it gets like this, add a little flour.
  5. Roll the dough out onto a floured surface. Then using a 4-5″ circle cookie cutter, cut out the circles and then press the circles into the muffin tray.
  6. Bake for 10 minutes. Remove the crusts from the oven and let them cool before adding your desired pie filling.
  7. While you waiting for the crusts to cool down, mix all the filling ingredients together. Then once the crusts are cool, add the filling into the middle of the pies.
